Winter Park, CO Free Music Festivals

With the end of summer wrapping up, there are two things that bring us mountain folk a bit of excitement – the fall colors are coming and ski season is right around the corner.  For those of you that love visiting the mountains, this is also a great time to start prepping for some of the best deals of the 2015/2016 ski season.  But, let’s not forget that there’s still one more month left before the leaves start changing colors – and for our favorite ski summer bum crowds, The Viking Lodge has just the ticket you need to get the best value out of a last minute Winter Park vacation.

2015 Winter Park SolShine Music Festival – Aug 1st Weekend

The first weekend of August is packed with FREE music at Hideaway Park Ampitheater (which happens to be walking distance from The Viking Lodge).  Starting Friday, July 31st at 6pm, right across the street from the lodge will be Coral Creek at Cooper Creek Square, followed by Vince Herman at the Winter Park Pub.

The next day, the BIG FREE show at the park starts at 6pm.  And guess what our summer bum friends – you’ll love this free show, because it’s two full sets of music with Leftover Salmon!  That’s right, your favorite Boulder, Colorado bluegrass, rock, country, and Cakun/Zydeco band is bringing it all live, free, and loud.

And if all this isn’t enough, the full line up for the music festival includes a weekend full of music.

Friday, July 31

  • 6pm: Coral Creek. Cooper Creek Square (free show)
  • 8pm: Vince Herman. Winter Park Pub (free show)
  • 10pm: Andy Thorn and Greg Garrison’s Burning Grass. Ullr’s Tavern ($5 cover)

Saturday, August 1

  • 3pm: Pickin’ on Jerry Garcia’s Birthday featuring Dead Phish Orchestra. Winter Park Pub (free show)
  • 6pm: LEFTOVER SALMON. Hideaway Park (free show)
  • 10pm: Alwyn’s Party featuring Alwyn Robinson of Leftover Salmon. Ullr’s Tavern ($5 cover)

Sunday, August 2

  • 4pm: Built to Last. Winter Park Pub (free show)

Winter Park Beer Festival – August 8th 12pm-5pm

Alright, it’s not free, but come on, you get unlimited tastings from over 35 craft brewers for $30 (buy the tickets in advance for the best deal) and live music from Kristen Kelly, middle band Oakhurst, and headliner Trout Steak Revival… and the best part, you’re walking distance to The Viking Lodge – no drinking and driving.  And if you really want to save money, opt for a McDonald’s lunch/dinner (it’s right across the street from the event).

The disclaimer is that this event usually sells out fast – so get your tickets now!  And if you can spring for the $70/ticket, you get the VIP experience, which includes a catered lunch, private seating, and N/A beverages (why you’d want this part, we have no idea – it’s a drinking event).

Oh, and yet another disclaimer – no frisbees, dogs, or marijuana smoking (actually, no smoking in general). We know, what kind of Colorado event is this?  It probably has something to do with the beer drinking.

Winter Park Music Festival – August 15th 12pm-6pm

Winter Park loves their music, which is why they brought yet another FREE live music performance.  You summer bums are loving this, aren’t you!  The line-up for this music festival includes 38 Special, Lou Gramm, and Rick Lewis Project.  Again, the festival is at Hideaway Park Amphitheater, so you can always walk back to The Viking Lodge to lie your head down after the festival.

Winter Park Uncorked – August 22nd 2pm-5pm

Another great deal, especially for those wine lovers is this new event being held at Hideaway Park Amphitheater.  Winter Park Uncorked is bringing over 30 different wines, food samples, and live music for a great price of $35 (that’s just over a $1 per wine tasting – how’s that for your budget)!  Music will be provided by Greg Holden and Jaden Carlson and tickets can be purchased in advanced from Eventbrite.

High-Note Thursday and Fraser Picnic in the Park Tuesday (both 6pm-8pm)

If you’re able to stay Thursday or Tuesday in Winter Park/Fraser Valley, these free music events are the tits!  With only a month left to enjoy these free concerts, pick your favorite band, and come on up to visit!

High-Note Thursday

  • August 6: Cowboy Dave –  Honkytonk/Western/Country
  • August 13: My Blue Sky – Allman Brothers Tribute Band
  • August 20: DubSkin – Reggae Mon

Fraser Picnic in the Park

Bonus: Free Yoga in the Park

Need a little bit more than just free music to get you driving to the mountains?  Then maybe free yoga will inspire you; besides, you can burn off some of those beer calories.  Sundays at 9am at Hideaway Park there are different instructors from area yoga and fitness centers that are showing off their skills and inviting you to come join them.  The line-up remaining for August, includes:

  • August 2: Yoga with Emily Kuderer
  • August 9: Crossfit with Tim Givens
  • August 16: Yoga with Margaret Strom
  • August 23: Yoga/Pilates with Michele Murray-Hedlund

Need Lodging?

And of course, if you need a place to crash, The Viking Lodge is the place that all the summer bums are raving about!
